I realize this is early but as pointed out before hand we are looking at a draft that incorporates 640 total picks.
With today being June the 7th we have 85 days until September 1st and in reality we need to average over 7 picks per day to have our rosters filled by September 1st.
One suggestion I may make is to not allow trades as far as picks are concerned with this initial draft. As far as I know this has not happened as of yet so it would not give anyone an advantage or disadvantage at this point.
We are seeing where already allowing time for pick trade offers to be considered or accepted may have an adverse affect on the flow of the picks being made.
Not trying to be a squeaky wheel here but really here in the first round or two picks should be flying off the boards as all the talent in the league is available and your first round or two strategies as far as picks or direction to choose your team should have been predetermined before the draft even started.
Anybody have any ideas that may help. I realize that assigning shorter time frames may well cause some hardships or problems due to work or personal obligations and can't access a computer during certian hours of the day and should be avoided if possible.
But somehow we need to speed up the process or we will be setting up to play the 2011 season at the current rate of movement.
Owners please chime in here and lets come up with some ideas!

I personally can't access the site at work, so an email chain with the draft picks might be a good idea.
In another league, we sent the commish a short list of draft picks if you were drafting soon, but couldn't be at a computer. This might work...if you dont have a pick soon after the commish.
I know we dont know each other very well, but text messaging is another idea.

I'm down with being emailed, text messaged, or whatever to know when the bid is completed. With Facebook around nowadays...not sure if you all are on that as well? Just thinking of options...the faster the draft goes, the better for me!

As far as sending in a "short" list of picks in advance with not knowing perhaps even what the pick has been directly in front of you could cause you to change your stategy regarding your own pick. Such a situation could even alter your pre made plans for your draft completely.
Another idea could be to suspend the offline draft where it is at and schedule a "live" draft for a particuliar day and time to be held here on the board at a time that everyone could schedule to participate.
This could even be done in segments in having rounds 1-15 at one time, rounds 15- 30 another time and finish off with the final ten rounds another time.
This would give people the opportunity to study their teams and rank the remaining players to fill their needs without trying to keep up with the whole draft and all the players at once.
One thing is this is a league that we choose to participate in so within reason we should be willing to try as owners to be able come up with a time that we could all do what we need to do to get our rosters done.
If we split the draft into 3 segments and put each team on a 5 minute "live draft" clock we would be looking at 90 minutes or less per session.
As I think about it this seems like a good option overall.

We still have 3 months before the season starts, if late August rolls around and we aren't done yet, then it's time to start changing the draft up I'd say right now we leave it the way it is. After picking everyone email the person thats up after you and/or we can exchange cell #'s and text picks in or send reminders that it's someone's turn to make a selection.

Thats a great new rule. Less for me to do.

I'd be totally against a no trade clause during the draft. How about considering if the draft looks like it'll run long, we stop the draft at round 30 and do a blind bid waiver system for the remaining 10 picks, or something like that. And sorry for the run-on sentence.

I can see where there might have been some concern the way things started yesterday. But I am with the last couple of posts. Let it be for now and see how it goes. we might surprise ourselves and get it 2 rounds today. Trying to get 16 people from 3 time zones together for a live draft or 3 segements would be difficult. I do like the the idea of moving the draft to ESPN eventually. I just think it will be easier to track who is taken and who is available. Ultimately I guess it's up to the commish, if he's not worried I'm not worried

I think that is a must. I is going to be very difficult to keep up with who has been drafted and who hasn't come round 20 and beyond. It would be a lot quicker if we could look at a web page and just see the player that are available
